It's not my job to…
Bit of a quick realization I had and wanted to share. I was working on my collection of
engineering advice and specifically around my distaste
for people who start sentences with It's not my job to…
. I had the urge to call them a name
and move on but couldn't really nail my justification for why I find these people so repugnant. Then
I figured it out.
When you start a sentence with It's not my job to…
you not only signal that the work is
beneath you, but so are those that do it. You're a clearly superior human being for whom the thought
of having to do such a task would degrade you to the status of one of those.
